New Delhi, May 6: After posting a stellar first quarter, Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW), the world's leading maker of premium cars by sales, is looking to expand its profits even more.
BMW has quietly launched its new MINI Cooper D Countryman soon it the carmaker's India unit commenced local production of MINI at their plant in Chennai. The car has been launched in two diesel variants - Mini Cooper D Countryman and Mini Cooper D High - and one petrol variant - Mini One Countryman. Both will be imported as CKD's.
Powered by 1.6 liter diesel engine, offering 122 ps power and 270 Nm torque, the two diesel Countryman models will be competitive priced as they compete with the upcoming Mercedes Benz A Class which is scheduled launch for May 30.
At the same time, the financial arm of the Mini brand called the ‘Mini Financial Services' has come out with a bullet-loan scheme for the base petrol Mini One Countryman to make the compact SUV more affordable. Under the scheme, you need to pay a down payment of Rs 7.99 lakh, while the remaining loan amount of Rs 19.42 lakh is spread out over tenure of seven years. This bullet-loan scheme therefore is being offered at an interest of 10.98 per cent per annum.
Mini Cooper D Countryman is priced at Rs 25.6 lakh while the Countryman High will command a price of Rs 28.9 lakh (Ex-showroom Mumbai). The Countryman can go from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.9 seconds. The 1.6 liter diesel engine is slated to be the cleanest with auto emissions at just 115g/km while offering ARAI certified mileage of 19.5 kmpl.
