After being verbally and racially abused by cricket spectators at the Wanderers Stadium on Saturday, South African spinner Imran Tahir has come up with a heart-warming response and has thanked his fans for the support.

Tahir, who is currently ranked number one in ODI cricket, took to his official Twitter account to acknowledge the public for the support they had put in him.

The spinner wrote that he is humbled by the support while adding that he is a very simple person who believes in showing love to everyone irrespective of their colour, country or religion.

"Thanking every one for your support and love really humbled. I am a very simple person who believes in showing love to everyone regardless of country, color or religion. I have played cricket all over the world and have only made friends. Much love," Tahir wrote.

The alleged incident took place during the pink fourth ODI between India and South Africa which the home side went on to win by five wickets by Duckworth-Lewis method.

Tahir had reported the matter to the stadium security, who subsequently escorted the spinner to identify the man and eject him from the Wanderers.

A video has also emerged on social media featuring Tahir talking to fans. The only words which could be heard from Tahir was him insisting "I have family too".

Following the incident, Cricket South Africa (CSA) had acknowledged the matter and said that the board and the security team are investigating the incident of racial abuse directed towards Tahir.

South Africa are currently trailing 1-3 in the six-match ODI series against India.

The two sides will now lock horns in the fifth match at the St George's Park, Port Elizabeth later on Tuesday.
