New Delhi: Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav has sacked party secretary Kamal Fauruqui for his comment on Yasin Bhatkal's arrest.

In a letter to Faruqui, party general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav has said, party president Mulayam Singh Yadav has removed him from the post of secretary, national executive with immediate effect.

After Indian Mujahideen terrorist Yaseen Bhatkal was arrested from Nepal by National Investigation Agency, Kamal Faruqui had demanded an impartial probe into the arrest.

Faruqui had said that the past track record of investigating agencies has been suspect. "When they arrest somebody, they claim that he is a big terrorist, but later on when they fail to prove the case, they release the accused.

"In the case of Yaseen Bhatkal too, if it is proved that he is a terrorist, action should be taken against him, but if he is arrested only because he is a Muslim, it would be giving a wrong message to the whole of India that a particularly community is suspect in the eyes of police", Faruqui had said.

Faruqui had said that "only an impartial probe will prove 'doodh ka doodh, paani ka paani' (sift the real truth)".

Faruqui's remark had raised the heckles of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, with VHP leader Praveen Togadia going to the extent of saying that he should be sent to Pakistan.
