Lashing out at the UPA government on the increase in fuel prices,Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said the hike would put the common man into difficulty and his party would soon launch a nation wide protest against it.
"People of the country are already reeling under high inflation and now this hike will hit the backbone of the common man", he told reporters at the airport in Chennai . Naidu said prices of vegetable, oil and foodgrains will go up due to the increase in price of petroleum products.
"It (Centre) had not reduced the price of fuel when the oil price in the international market came down", he said and wondered why the Centre increased fuel prices when the oil rates were up. Claiming that such a steep fuel price hike in one single stroke had never happened in the country's history,he said this was something "unprecedented".
Naidu, who came here from Bangalore on a private visit, also said UPA's allies such as DMK should urge the Centre to rollback the prices. "DMK is an experienced political party. If they are concerned about the common man, they should urge the Centre to rollback the prices", he said.PTI
