Panaji, May 18: Goa is India's only state where the price of petrol (Rs 52.10) is cheaper than the price of diesel (Rs 52.70).
On May 10, oil companies hiked the price of diesel across the country by 90 paise taking the price of diesel to Rs 52,70 a litre.
Goa, known for its cheap liquor, will now be known for cheaper petrol. The cost of petrol here is the lowest in the country after the Manohar Parrikar-led BJp government slashed VAT to 0.1 per cent as part of its romise made in the 2012 poll manifesto.
At that time, the price of petrol in Goa dropped by a huge Rs 11 per litre.
President of the All Goa Petrol dealers association Paresh Joshi said, with petrol becoming cheaper than diesel, people in Goa may now go for pterol-driven vehicles instead of diesel-run vehicles to save money, where the trend is diamtetrically opposite in the rest of the country.
"It won't make a difference to us because a majority of petrol pumps have both fuels. But consumer trends may change vis-a-vis buying petrol or diesel vehicles," Joshi said.
