    Three killed as mild earthquake hits Pakistan's Balochistan province

    A mild 3.5 magnitude quake hit Pakistan's Balochistan province, killing three people and injuring five others when their mud-walled houses collapsed, authorities have said. The epicentre of the earthquake that hit the province on Friday was 60 km northwest of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan. The three children were killed in Chaman, a town bordering Iran, when their mud-walled house collapsed after the earthquake. “They were aged between 12 and 8 years and included two girls," according to the spokesperson for the Balochistan Chief Minister. Two mud-walled houses collapsed after the earthquake. Rescue operations were continuing to see if they were any other casualties, injuries or damages, the spokesperson said.

    COVID-19: Delhi reports 416 cases, highest daily tally in over seven months

    In a concerning development, the national capital reported 416 fresh Covid cases on Saturday, the highest daily count in over seven months, as per the health bulletin issued by the health department.

    The city's positivity rate also remained high at 14.37 per cent.

    To address the concerns surrounding the spike in the number of Covid cases, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had held a review meeting on Friday. He assured the residents of Delhi that the government is implementing all the necessary measures, and there is no immediate cause for panic.

    Delhi Police constable stabbed, robbed near Signature Bridge; 3 held

    Three men were arrested for allegedly stabbing and robbing a traffic police head constable near Signature Bridge, which connects Wazirabad to East Delhi, police said on Saturday.

    A hunt to nab the accused — Anup (33), a resident of Usmanpur; Mohammad Arif (26) and Mohammad Abid (24), both residents of Bhajanpura — was launched after several people had tweeted about the incident.

    The incident happened when Mohit, posted at the Model Town traffic circle, was returning home from duty and stopped near the bridge to urinate on Wednesday.
    He was injured badly and suffered wounds on hand and foot, a senior police officer said.

    Pope Francis leaves hospital; ‘Still alive,’ he quips

    A chipper-sounding Pope Francis was discharged Saturday from the Rome hospital where he was treated for bronchitis, quipping to journalists before being driven away that he’s “still alive.”
    Francis, 86, was hospitalised at Gemelli Polyclinic on Wednesday following his weekly public audience in St Peter’s Square after reportedly experiencing breathing difficulties. The pontiff received antibiotics administered intravenously during his stay, the Vatican said.

    5.2 magnitude earthquake hits Nepal

     A moderate-intensity earthquake was recorded with its epicentre at Suri in the Dolakha district of Nepal on Saturday morning. An earthquake of 5.2 magnitude was recorded at 11.27 am in Dolakha, 180 km east of Kathmandu, according to the National Seismological Centre here.

    The tremor was also experienced in neighbouring Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap, Sindhupal Chowk, and Nuwakot districts as well as the Kathmandu Valley.

    China granted visas to over 18,000 Indians since January: Diplomat

    China has issued visas to over 18,000 Indians in the last three months, a Chinese diplomat said. Interacting with a group of journalists in Kolkata, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in India, Chen Jianjun, said he was looking forward to more Chinese being given visas by India. "The number of visa applications for China has been on the rise. Since January, we have given visas to 18,560 Indians," he said. "Since August, 9,409 student visas have been issued to Indian students," he said. However, Jianjun said, the number of visa applications is yet to reach the pre-pandemic levels.
