Ajay Arjun Singh was the former Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly from 2017 to 2018 and also a multiple-term MLA from Churhat. Ajay Singh is the son of Congress stalwart and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Arjun Singh. Ajay Singh first entered the Madhya Pradesh Assembly from Churhat in 1985 bypoll after his father Arjun Singh became the state Chief Minister. He again won a bypoll in 1991 when his father became the Union Minister. He represented the seat in 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013 before losing it to Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Shardendu Tiwari by 6,402 votes in 2018. Ajay Singh, also known as Rahul Bhaiya, lost the Lok Sabha polls in 2014 and 2019 from Satna and Sidhi constituencies respectively. He was also Minister of Panchayat and Rural Development, Tourism and Culture in the Digvijaya Singh Ministry. He is again contesting from Churhat against BJP's Shardendu Tiwari.
