The perturbed villagers demanded proper investigations. The police claimed that it had found the bodies in the drain while the residents denied those claims and said it was them who had dug out the remains. The house was sealed by the police banning entry of media into the house.

Towards the end of the month of December, Moninder Singh and his domestic help Surender Koli were taken into custody for interrogation in connection with the case of missing 20-year old girl Payal.

Koli soon admitted to have sexually abused and killed Payal. The police then began digging into the land nearby and found child skeletons.

Although an FIR was lodged on October 7, 2006 about Payal's disappearance still the investigations showed that Payal's mobile phone remained in use while her SIM remained inactive. As reported by a local rickshaw puller, the cell phone belonged to someone from the ``monster house.''

After collecting evidences, police called Moninder Singh for interrogation but all in vain.

Meanwhile, Koli also admitted to have killed a woman and dumping her body in the backside of the house. He was arrested and then police began digging and found more human remains of children.

The police also arrested a female domestic help named Maya who was accused of supplying women to Moninder Singh. The situation worsened in Nithari.

Beginning from January 1, the investigations and trials came into full swing. Moninder Singh and Surender Koli were sent into police custody for further interrogations. Raids were conducted on Moninder Singh's Chandigarh residence and his family members were also interrogated.
