New Delhi, Jul 10: In further embarrassment to Congress and the UPA government, BJP on Tuesday said it concurred with the views of law minister Salman Khurshid that the ruling party is "directionless" and maintained this puts the blame for it on Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

"Law minister Salman Khurshid has made some unrestrained remarks against the UPA government. What people have been saying all along an important minister like the law minister has accepted it.

Khurshid's comments clearly show that the Congress is directionless. We agree with his comments," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

The BJP maintained that this statement from Khurshid puts the blame for the state of affairs in Congress and the government on Sonia Gandhi and Singh.

"Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi are leading the government and the party and Khurshid has raised questions on their leadership abilities. There is a governance deficit, lack of coordination and mutual distrust in the Congress and the government," Hussain said.

Referring to Khurshid's reported comments on Rahul Gandhi that people had only seen cameos of his thoughts, the main opposition also attacked the young leader, saying his "experiments" in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab had failed.

"Congress is directionless and there is a lack of leadership in the party. It sees a dark picture everywhere in the midst of which Rahul Gandhi carried out his experiments in these three states. Now the Congress realises that he cannot deliver," Hussain said.

BJP further said there was a misconception that if Rahul Gandhi takes charge a lot can happen. "They do not realise that he is already involved. He is a general secretary of the party and is virtually No. 2 after Sonia Gandhi," Hussain said.

Hussain said several big decisions of the Congress in recent times were taken by Rahul Gandhi and hence it is wrong to assume that if he takes control things will change.

Attacking Prime Minister Singh, the BJP said he has "completely failed" in improving the economy, controlling price rise and in providing a direction to the government.

"Till now it was said that the world, even the US, takes advice from him on economic issues. Now even the US has criticised him," Hussain said, alluding to a Time magazine story calling Singh an "underachiever".

He accused Singh of doing nothing and only truing to cover up his failures. "Above the Prime Minister is the National Advisory Council and Sonia Gandhi is heading both the UPA and the NAC," Hussain said.
