New Delhi, Nov 9: BJP today sought to hold UPA ally Mamata Banerjee equally responsible with Congress for price rise and alleged that despite the opposition setting off alarms, her party and other coalition partners were not waking up to the “sins” of the government.

“Mamata Banerjee, who always talks about the rights of the common man and the poor, is oblivious to price rise. We hope she will show the same tenacity on the issue of price rise as she did on the Indo-Bangladesh issue recently,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

He wondered why Banerjee had “mellowed down” after raising the pitch on roll back of petrol prices.

“There were reports that Mamta is worried about price rise. The country wants to know what happened to her worries,” Hussain said, adding that the people will not spare the UPA allies and will ask them how prices were rising while they held plum portfolios.

The main opposition maintained that Banerjee was not expected to give “sermons” as she was doing these days but to take action. “UPA allies should join the fight against corruption,” Hussain said.

The BJP charged that the “burden of sins” of the Congress government due to price rise was increasing by the day and the allies were to be equally blamed for this.

“BJP is setting off alarms to awaken the UPA allies even as the Congress makes different excuses everyday to avoid taking action. Oaths and promises to fight corruption are mere words for the government,” Hussain said.
