Faridabad: A deputy jailor alongwith three policemen thrashed a convict  inside Faridabad jail and branded his back with the Haryana Police logo.

The jail official did this because the convict refused to pay him Rs 1 lakh bribe, says the convict.

Sandeep, the convict under Sec 307 IPC, had been paying Rs 10,000 bribe every month to the deputy jailor for clandestinely using a cellphone inside the jail.

When he failed to pay the bribe money for the last three months, the deputy jailor asked for the money. He called Sandeep out of the barracks, and when the convict offered him Rs 30,000 bribe, the jail official refused and demanded Rs 1 lakh, according to Sandeep.

When Sandeep expressed his inability to pay, the deputy jailor and three other policemen began to thrash him black and blue, took off the convict's shirt, and branded his back with a red hot Haryana Police metal badge, the convict alleged.

The deputy jailor told Sandeep to pay Rs 1 lakh by next day, otherwise he would be branded again.

The convict was produced in court by his lawyer today who showed his branded back to the judge. The judge has ordered a probe alongwith a medical checkup of the convict.

No action has so far been taken against the erring Haryana policemen.
