Ahmedabad: Congress leader Shankarsinh Vaghela yesterday filed a complaint with the Election Commission against his Samajwadi Party opponent in the fray from Sabarkantha Lok Sabha seat, for allegedly being a registered voter in Gujarat as well as Madhya Pradesh.

Vaghela, also the Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Legislative Assembly, has demanded that candidature of Shaikh Arif be cancelled as he has flouted poll norms.

'I submit that SP nominee Shaikh Arif in the affidavit form no. 26 has shown his residence as '2, Gulistan Apartment, Arbuda Mill Char Rasta, Sukhram Nagar, Rakhiyal and having electoral ID number as Sr. 879 in part no. 133/229 in 46-Nikol Assembly constituency.

'I am also producing the electoral roll of Madhya Pradesh State in Sajapur district, where 168- Sujalpur Assembly constituency has his name as Sr. 1265 in part no. 3 and his Id no. YWW0806067,' Vaghela said in the complaint.

'This shows he is having two voter IDs and has not disclosed this fact in the affidavit of nomination form, which is the violation of rules and regulation of Election Commission,' the Congress leader said.

Demanding that Arif's nomination be cancelled, Vaghela said, 'I demand initiating an inquiry against him for filing a false affidavit under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951'
