According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Yadav, the accused Dhirendra Shastri (40), a resident of Sakora Basai Arela village in Agra, sexually assaulted his 75-year-old neighbour when they had gone to Govind Gera, Vrindavan for pilgrimage on July 1.
Shastri met the woman at a bus stand when she was on her way to Vrindavan and they decided to travel together as he too was heading to the temple town. They paid obeisance at several temples during the day and stayed the night together in a room in Ved Prakash Dharmshala in Govind Gera, where he raped her, the Deputy SP said.
The woman, however, left the place early next morning and reached home where she narrated her ordeal to her family members, following which they travelled to Vrindavan today and a FIR was filed in this connection, he said.
“The accused is guilty of the offence and has been arrested,” Yadav said, adding that a medical examination of the victim was conducted which confirmed rape.
