New Delhi: Mitsubishi has launched the automatic version of Pajero Sport at Rs 23.55 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Pajero Sport Automatic is available only in rear wheel-drive, and will sit below the top of the line 4WD variant of the SUV.
Pajero Sport AT competes against the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Santa Fe 4x2 automatics in India. With the 4x2, Mitsubishi hopes to double its annual sales to 4,000 units.
The SUV has the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 175bhp and 350Nm of torque. The engine comes mated with a five sped automatic transmission gear box by default and it is a rear wheel drive vehicle.
It offers features such as a two-din audio system, a new infotainment system loaded with navigation, paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel, reverse parking camera and automatic climate control.
Going for 4x2 version means that the Pajero Sport Automatic is over 100kg lighter than the top of the line model.
Pajero Sport's manual variant comes with a five speed manual transmission gear box and is also offered with four wheel drive mechanism which is not available with the automatic transmission variant.
Mitsubishi has also updated the 4WD variant and launched it with a revised price tag of Rs 23.8 lakh. The updated 4WD variant will be available with a new infotainment system and a chrome front grille. The car will be available in two two-tone paint schemes - flame red with white and lemon yellow with white.
The SUV is built on a ladder frame chassis and suspension duties is handled by double-wishbone front suspension with coil springs and three-link coil spring suspension at the rear paired to anti-roll bars. This means good on-road handling.
The 4×2 AT returns 12.8 km/l according to ARAI which the company says will appeal to city commuters. The new Pajero Sport AT 4×2 will be assembled at Hindustan Motors' plant in Tiruvallur near Chennai.
