Uttar Pradesh: Kanwariyas pelted with stones near mosque in Bareilly

Uttar Pradesh: The Kanwariyas were on their way to Budaun to get water from the Ganga River when the incident happened.

Uttar Pradesh: Stones were pelted at Kanwariyas near the Shahnoori mosque in the Jogi Nawada area on Sunday. According to the police, the incident took place when the Kanwariyas were on their way to Budaun to get water from the Ganga River. Taking to Twitter, police said that around 3, a Kavad Jatha was going under the Baradari police station area. There was an argument over throwing something while the Kanwariyas were passing through near a religious place. Following this, stones were pelted by some people after going 40-50 meters ahead. As per the footage found, it was seen that stones were pelted from both sides. The police force is present on the spot. The situation has been brought under control and police force has been deployed in the area. No injuries have been reported so far. Law and order are maintained. People are being identified on the basis of CCTV footage against whom strict legal action will be taken.

Bareilly SP City Rahul Bhati, said, "...In the Jogi Nawada area of Baradari police station area of Bareilly, some miscreants pelted stones at the Kanwar Yatra. More than a dozen Kanwar Yatris were injured in the stone pelting. Police officers reached the spot & restored peace...Everything will become clear after the investigation. Police have arrested one person in this whole case. A case has been registered. Further investigation is underway..."

In the latest development, the Kanwariyas are now staging a protest in the area demanding action against their attackers. Talking about the incident Additional District Magistrate (City) R D Pandey informed that the situation in the area is normal now and efforts are being made to persuade the Kanwariyas to continue with their journey.

The official also said that the Police force has been deployed in the area.
