Greater Noida lift accident: 4 more workers succumb to injuries, death count reaches 8

Amrapali lift accident: The death count in Greater Noida lift accident rose to eight after four more workers succumed to their injuries in hospital on Saturday. A service lift had a free fall from the fourteenth floor at Amrapali Dream Valley Society under-construction building in Greater Noida West claiming four lives on Friday.

The police have lodged an FIR for culpable homicide, injury due to negligence, among other charges, against nine people, including two officials of state-run NBCC, according to officials. This long-stalled project is being completed by the state-run NBCC.

On Friday, Ishtaq Ali (23) of Bihar's Balrampur district, Arun Tanti Mandal (40) of Bihar's Banka, Vipot Mandal (45) of Bihar' Katihar and Aris Khan (22) of Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh died on spot.

Gautam Buddha Nagar DM Manish Kumar Verma on Saturday announced that the family members of the deceased will get a compensation of Rs 25 lakh. While compensation of Rs 20 lakh will be given by NBCC and Rs 5 lakh will be received from the court.

FIR lodged

Additional DCP (Central Noida) Rajeev Dixit said on Friday evening that an FIR has been lodged against nine people at the Bisrakh police station in connection with the incident. Among those booked are two officials of NBCC, two of the lift provider company, and two site supervisors. All the accused have been booked under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 337 (injury due to negligence), 338 (grievous hurt due to negligence), 287 (negligent conduct with respect to machinery) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code, according to the FIR.
