With 2,281 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (also known as black fungus) on May 24, Gujarat tops the chart for these cases in India, followed closely by Maharashtra with 2,000 cases. These two states alone account for 55 per cent of all cases in the country.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday said that the state government has classified black fungus as a notified disease.
