The UIDAI said it had taken note of the breach and got the data removed from those websites.
More than 200 central and state government websites publicly displayed details such as names and addresses of some Aadhaar beneficiaries, the UIDAI has said.
While no specific deadlines have been specified, the government is hopeful that the program will be rolled out soon, marking a big step towards expanding the financial and digital mainstream.
NRIs and PIOs are not required to link bank accounts and other services with Aadhaar, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) said on Friday.
Government in June had notified the Prevention of Money Laundering (Maintenance of Records) Second Amendment Rules, 2017 making Aaadhar and PAN/Form 60 mandatory for availing financial services.
An official said that a letter regarding the system's installation was received by all the zones last week.
