Senior Congress leader CP Joshi won the 2018 Rajasthan Assembly election from Nathdwara seat. Joshi is only the second leader in the history of Indian politics who has a dubious record of losing an election by mere one vote. During the Rajasthan assembly elections in 2008, CP Joshi was defeated by a single vote on Nathdwara seat in Rajsamand district. Later, it was revealed that CP Joshi's wife could not vote as she was visiting a temple on the polling day.
Joshi, who graduated from MB College Udaipur in Law, also has Masters degree in Physics. He also completed his Masters and Ph.D. degrees in Psychology. Before joining politics full time, CP Joshi was a Professor of Psychology at Udaipur's Mohanlal Sukhadia University.
CP Joshi has also served as Minister of Railways (May 2013-June 2013), Minister of Road Transport and Highways (January 2011-June 2013) in the Congress-led UPA goverment.
