    Avalanche in northern Pakistan kills 11 members of nomadic tribe

     A snowy avalanche in northern Pakistan killed 11 people Saturday, including a 4-year-old boy, and injured 25 from a nomadic tribe as they crossed a mountainous area with their goat herds, police said.
    The avalanche struck the nomads in the Chambeli area of Shounter Pass that connects the Astore district of the Gilgit Baltistan region to the bordering Azad Kashmir region.
    Four women and a 4-year-old boy were among the dead, said Gilgit Baltistan senior police officer Ziarat Ali.

    Karnataka Cabinet expansion: Protests break out as discontent spills out into the streets

    While joy swept Raj Bhavan as 24 ministers were sworn in on Saturday, the discontent among many senior legislators who were denied a ministerial position in the 34-member Cabinet of the Siddaramaiah government erupted in the form of protests outside.

    Dejected supporters of the legislators who could not make it to the Cabinet raised slogans outside the Governor's residence where the ministers took oath.

    West Bengal: 4 arrested in attack on Abhishek's convoy, Kurmi outfit says not involved in violence

     Four people were arrested on Saturday in connection with the attack on senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee's convoy, in which state minister Birbaha Hansda's vehicle was vandalised, police said.
    The accused were identified as Ajit Mahato, Anit Mahato, Manmohit Mahato and Anup Mahato, they said.
    While Anup is a resident of Manikpara in Jhargram district, the other three are residents of Garh Salboni where the incident happened on Friday evening, they added.

    Security stepped up in Lutyens' Delhi ahead of inauguration of Parliament building

    Security has been stepped up in Lutyens’ Delhi ahead of the inauguration of the new Parliament building by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday at an elaborate ceremony to be attended by many eminent personalities.
    Police have already issued a traffic advisory that the New Delhi district will be treated as a controlled area for the period and entry of vehicles will be restricted.
    The Parliament building is located in a high-security area. Besides additional deployment, there is continuous monitoring through CCTV cameras, the police said.

    Maharashtra: Girl commits suicide after failing Class 12 exam

    A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide after failing to clear the Class 12 Maharashtra state board examination here, police said. Akansha Sonbarse (17) was found hanging from the ceiling fan hook at her house in Chichbhuvan Basti in Beltarodi area on Thursday afternoon, said a police official. She was alone at home at the time.
    Akansha was apparently depressed after failing the examination, the results of which were declared on Wednesday.
    A case of accidental death has been registered, the official said.

    Charges against wrestling federation chief shameful, should be put behind bars: Yoga guru Ramdev

    Speaking in support of the women wrestlers staging a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, yoga guru Ramdev has said Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh should be put in jail.
    He has also said the allegations of sexual harassment against Singh, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, are shameful.
    The protesting grapplers, including Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat, have been demanding Singh's arrest, alleging that he has sexually harassed several women wrestlers, including a minor.

    E-cigarettes, hookahs seized from Thane shop

    Banned e-cigarettes and hookahs worth Rs 72,190 were seized from a shop in Naya Nagar area of Thane district, a police official said on Saturday.
    The 32-year-old owner of the shop has been arrested and further probe into the case was underway, MBVV police's central crime unit senior inspector Rahul Rakh said.

    Bengaluru-bound Nepal Airlines flight returns to Kathmandu after suspected bird strike

     A Bengaluru-bound Nepal Airlines aircraft was forced to return to the Tribhuvan International Airport here on Saturday after it reportedly suffered a bird hit.
    The A320 aircraft of Nepal’s flag carrier landed safely at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and technicians were examining the aircraft, according to TIA spokesperson Teknath Sitaula.

    CM Sawant: Iron ore mining in Goa may resume in 2023-24

    Iron ore mining in Goa may resume in 2023-24, said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday and asserted that the coastal state has turned the G20 and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meetings into opportunities to promote its tourism industry.
    Speaking at a meeting of the NITI Aayog, the Centre’s apex public policy think tank, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sawant said Goa has taken steps for the auction of iron ore blocks to resume mining activities.
    The industry, which used to be one of the major revenue earners for the state, had come to a standstill in 2018 after the Supreme Court quashed 88 mining leases.

    Man arrested in Rajasthan's Pali for killing elderly woman, allegedly eating her flesh

    A 24-year-old man, suspected to be suffering from hydrophobia, allegedly killed an elderly woman and ate her flesh in Rajasthan's Pali district following which police arrested the person and admitted him to a hospital, officials said on Saturday.

    Doctors at Bangar Hospital said Surendra Thakur, a resident of Mumbai, "is suffering from hydrophobia" -- a fear of water caused by late-stage rabies infection -- possibly because he was bitten by a "rabid dog" in the past and did not get the right treatment.
