A new group of pilgrims left for the Amarnath Yatra from Pantha Chowk, based in Srinagar, through the Baltal and Pahalgam routes, to arrive at the Amarnath Cave on July 27 in the midst of tight security. The district administration is providing all facilities at the base camp under the direction of police and security authorities. The 62-day-long Amarnath Yatra, which started on July 1, will finish on August 31, 2023.
Meanwhile, more than 3.60 lakh pilgrims embarked on the Amarnath Yatra this year, outperforming last year's count with over a month still left before the pilgrimage concludes, said an official. The 62-day yearly journey to the 3,888-meter-high cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas started from the twin tracks of Pahalgam in Anantnag and Baltal in the Ganderbal area on July 1.
"The Amarnath Yatra - 2023 has accomplished an achievement, outperforming the complete number of pilgrims from the previous year," a spokesperson said.
The current year's yatra has been recognised by its seamless arrangements, unfaltering administrations, and careful administration that earned far-reaching praise and sustained a feeling of congruity among individuals hailing from different backgrounds, he said.
Authorities said 40 individuals—generally pilgrims—died of different causes during the current year's journey. The yatra has likewise seen a critical expansion in the number of foreign pilgrims visiting the shrine. The pilgrims have likewise praised the administration's efforts in guaranteeing a smooth and hassle-free journey.
The yatra coincided with the recognition of Kargil Diwas, which denotes India's win in the 1999 war, at every base camp.
The occasion saw support from the Army, Central Reserve Police Force, police, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, civil administration, and yatris, fortifying the connection between the military and the regular citizen populace, the representative said.
