Anantnag gunfight: Army uses drones to attack terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, encounter underway

A gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists hiding in the Kokernag area in Anantnag on Wednesday.

Anantnag gunfight: The security forces are using drones for attacks on the hideout of terrorists in the Kokernag area of Jammu and Kashmir, as per the reports. Terrorists have been cornered in one hideout. The contact was established with terrorists at 11 am. The cordon of security forces has been readjusted. Earlier, another soldier lost his life on Friday in the ongoing gunfight in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, said sources. This unfortunate incident has brought the total number of casualties to four since Wednesday. The area is cordoned off and a search operation is underway.

The Army and the police launched a joint search operation to hunt down the terrorists late at night on Tuesday. The fierce gunfight broke out in the early hours of Wednesday.

4 jawans killed

Earlier on Wednesday, in a tragic incident, an Army colonel, a major and a senior police official lost their lives during a fierce gunfight with terrorists in the Kokernag area. The officers Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonak and Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat have been killed by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists. On Friday, the body of another missing soldier was also recovered. He had been reported missing since Thursday.

Mortal remains of bravehearts sent to their respective native places

The mortal remains of Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish Dhonchack were brought to their residences in Panipat. Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat was laid to rest on Thursday at his residence in Budgam. 

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha laid a wreath and paid homage to Col Manpreet Singh and Major Aashish Dhonchak, who made supreme sacrifice in an operation against terrorists in Anantnag. "My deepest condolences to their families. The grateful nation will forever remain indebted to the bravehearts,” the Lt Governor said.
