Aligarh, Jan 16: The Aligarh Muslim University today announced the schedule for its student body polls, elections for which will be conducted on January 31.

According to a notification issued by the university, the elections will be held in line with recommendations of the Lyngdoh Committee.

Professor Mohammad Shabbir of Faculty of Law, who has been appointed the chief electoral officer for the polls, said only bona-fide students who fulfil age guidelines will be permitted to contest the elections.

The upper age limit for research scholar contestants will be 30 years, whereas for those pursuing post-graduation, it will be 25 years.

Similarly, the age cut-off for students pursuing professional courses is 24 years, while for graduates, it is 22 years.

Any student who is facing criminal charges or has faced disciplinary action will not be allowed to participate in the polls, Shabbir said.

While use of vehicles for campaigning inside the campus has been prohibited, any poll procession will be allowed only with prior permission from the Proctor, he said.

A ban has also been imposed on the use of printed posters and banners, and only hand-made posters will be allowed for campaigning, Shabbir said. Candidates found violating the model poll code will face disqualification, he added.
