Anjali Pandey (30), who was working with Qualis Marketing (P) Ltd in Ghaziabad, was attacked by the accused near the Chopla Mandir market while he was returning to his office along with a colleague after collecting cash from the market, a police official said.
Three men pounced on Anjali in an attempt to rob him around 8 p.m. However, when he tried to resist, they stabbed him several times in the abdomen and fled from the spot. Local traders rushed the victim to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Anjali's colleague escaped unhurt in the attack.
The victim's brother, Pawan, lodged the First Information Report (FIR) with the Kotwali police station Wednesday.
Pawan in his complaint said that he suspected involvement of three brothers - Ram Prasad Pandey, Vijay Parkash Pandey and Nanky Pandey of Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district - in the murder of his brother, as they knew about Anjali's activities, a police official said.
“On Pawan's complaint, we have registered a case against the three brothers. But all the accused have been absconding. We are trying to trace them,” Superintendent of Police (City) Shiva Shankar Yadav said.
