New Delhi: The recent spine chilling gang rape incident that took place in Rajarampur village under Labhpur police station in Birbhum district of West Bengal on January 21 has once again pointed fingers at the functioning of Khap Panchayats in villages.

The panchayat ordered 12 men to gang rape a 20-year old tribal girl who had dared to have a love affair with a man outside her community.

Khaps are self proclaimed groups of village leaders who have been infamous for their controversial diktats.
