The Lt Governor appealed to the Chief Minister  that in view of the sacrosanct occasion of Republic Day and the perceived security situation, the ongoing protest/dharna may be withdrawn. "The judicial inquiry ordered earlier will be expedited", the Lt Governor said.

Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party ministers had been demanding the suspension of the Delhi Police officials who failed to take action against sex and drug traders in Khirkee Extension and the in-laws who set a married woman on fire.

Kejriwal and his ministers had sat on dharna outside the Rail Bhavan since Monday, and as several thousand AAP supporters collected, police had a tough time controlling the crowd.

On Thursday, Delhi Police had a violent scuffle with AAP supporters who broke down the barricades.
