6. Anti Sikh riots, 1984
One of the most brutal communal riots of the nation, nearly 8,000 Sikhs were killed following the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.
The riots went on for three continuous days in Delhi, Kanpur and Bokaro and the Sikh community was the worst affected.
Most of the perpetrators of the anti-Sikh riots are yet to be brought to book.
