Rameswaram, July 31: More than two lakh devotees from all over the country today witnessed the famous Adi festival at Ramanathaswamy temple here.
The festival, organised to celebrate the auspicious Adi Amavasya, began with the hoisting of the temple flag. An idol of Goddess Paravadhavardhini kept in an open palanquin was brought to the spot before the ceremony, temple sources said.
Devotees usually come to this temple on Adi amavasya on August 6 to perform poojas for their forefathers and worship the deity, Temple Joint commissioner A Selvaraj said.
He said the car festival would be held on Aug 8.
