Jawaharlal Nehru University's (JNU) former student leader and Congress candidate from North East Delhi, Kanhaiya Kumar, was assaulted on Friday while he was leaving the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office. The video of the incident from Kartar Nagar of Usmanpur police station area of ​​North East Delhi went viral on social media. Some people attacked Kanhaiya Kumar on the pretext of garlanding him. They went near Kanhaiya Kumar and slapped him. During this, the woman corporator of Aam Aadmi Party was also misbehaved with. Accordingly, the woman corporator Chhaya Sharma has lodged a complaint with the police.

According to a complaint by Sharma, "Some persons came and put garland around Kanhaiya Kumar. After garlanding him, some persons threw ink on Kanhaiya Kumar and tried to assault him. When Chhaya Sharma tried to intervene, they misbehaved and threatened her."

The video of this incident that has surfaced shows that Kanhaiya Kumar was slapped and even pushed to the ground. However, Kanhaiya Kumar's supporters present in the crowd immediately caught the youth.

Allegations levelled against Manoj Tiwari

After the assault on Kanhaiya Kumar, his office issued a statement accusing BJP candiate Manoj Tiwari. It said, "Manoj Tiwari is furious due to the huge public support Kanhaiya is getting and the fear of defeat. Attempt to attack Kanhaiya by sending his fellow goons. The public will answer the violence with their votes on 25th.''

Delhi to vote on all seven Lok Sabha seats on May 25

Notably, there are a total of seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. In 2019, all the seven seats were won by the BJP.  The voting on all these seven seats of Delhi is slated for May 25. The results will be declared on June 4. In view of the Lok Sabha elections 2024, BJP has made Manoj Tiwari its candidate from North East Delhi Lok Sabha seat. On the other hand, Congress has declared Kanhaiya Kumar as an I.N.D.I.A bloc candidate from this seat in a bipolar contest. There is a tough competition between the two on this seat. Kanhaiya started his politics from JNU, while Manoj Tiwari was a famous actor and singer, after which he entered politics.
