Thrissur: A special investigating team has been constituted to nab those who damaged some chapels in the area recently, police said.

Some persons, allegedly belonging to 'Hindu Aikya Vedi' (HAV), had damaged the chapels in a fallout of alleged police action on activists when they blocked passage of Moorkanad Saint Antony's Church procession on April 26.

An all-party meeting was held here yesterday, at the initiative of the District Collector, M S Jaya, to explore
ways to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

However, representatives of the HAV, VHP and BJP walked out of the meeting alleging that the district administration failed in the maintenance of law and order.

The Collector refuted the allegations, describing them as "totally baseless."

Superintendent of Police (Rural), N Vijayakumar said a team has been set up to nab those who damaged some chapels.

The official monthly publication of the Thrissur Archdiocese 'Catholica Sabha' (Catholic Church) has alleged in its latest issue that a section of people were deliberately objecting to the religious rituals of the Church in the district at an "unprecedented level".
