These elections are for saving democracy and the Constitution, he said. If the BJP comes to power, it will destroy both, Yadav alleged in an election rally in Balrampur.

Addressing an election meeting in Payagpur Vidhan Sabha constituency for party candidate Mukesh Srivastava, Akhilesh Yadav said the BJP government made diesel and petrol so costly that poor people are unable to drive their vehicles.

Gandhi accepted that Congress had weakened in the state over the past few decades but the party has worked hard now to rebuild it and reconnect with public.
