Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya was detained at Karad Railway Station in the Satara district of Maharashtra in the early hours of Monday. Somaiya was expected to visit Kohlapur today. He was en route to the district via train. Ahead of his visit, Kolhapur District Collector had issued prohibitory orders against him and imposed Section 144, prohibiting gatherings on September 20 and 21.

AAP National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is on a visit to Uttarakhand's Kumaon region, addressed a press conference on Sunday. Kejriwal's visit to the state comes ahead of assembly polls next year. Addressing the press conference, Kejriwal today promised 1 lakh government jobs within 6 months of government formation in the state. He also said the Aam Aadmi Party would reserve 80 per cent of job opportunities for the local people of the state. Unless jobs are provided, Kejriwal said his party would give Rs 5,000 a month to people.
The Yogi Adityanath government, which completes four-and-a-half years in power on Sunday, has said that Uttar Pradesh benefitted immensely from the 'double-engine' government. This can be substantiated by the quantum of Central assistance the state government has received over the last four-and-a-half years, ensuring effective implementation of the developmental schemes.
Congress leader Ambika Soni on Sunday declined the offer for the post of the next Punjab chief minister, sources said. Citing health reasons, Ambika Soni today said she is not keeping well and does not wish to take up the post. This came after Amarinder Singh on Saturday resigned as Punjab chief minister, saying he felt "humiliated" at the way the party handled the infighting in the state unit.
