IPL 2019, SRH vs KKR: Bairstow, Warner power Hyderabad to dominating 9-wicket win over Kolkata

Highlights, SRH vs KKR,  Match 38: Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders IPL match from Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. A struggling display of batting by Kolkata once again. They are proving time and again that without Russell, they are not a good batting unit at all. Not many times do you see an opener batting till the 17th over but scoring just at a strike rate of 100. None of the others performed and even Rinku Singh, in spite of averting a collapse in the middle overs, could never really up the ante. And then, the tactic of frustrating Russell worked big time for Hyderabad as he could not do much damage. (MATCH SCORECARD)

SRH win by 9 wickets

Are we dreaming? 30 balls left and the game is done and dusted. Hyderabad's second biggest win in terms of both - wickets and balls remaining. The one-man army from the eastern state of India is going down very badly. 5th loss on the trot.

19.03 IST: Prithvi Raj to Kane Williamson, Short of a length delivery, Kane punches it through covers. Russell chases it and does well to stop it just before the ropes. The batsmen get three runs.

Kane Williamson is the new batsman in.

19.00 IST: Prithvi Raj to David Warner, OUT! TIMBER! Prithvi Raj finally gets one and he is pumped up. His team is not in a great position but your first wicket is always special. He has been getting no assistance from his fielders so he does it by himself. It is the slower one on middle, stays a touch low. Warner looks to hit it across the line, the ball though sneaks under his bat and rattles the stumps.

18.57 IST: Sunil Narine to David Warner, SIX! BANG! 10 from the last two balls. 30 runs more needed. This is very full on middle, Warner lofts it over long on and clears the fence by ease.

18.44 IST: Sunil Narine to David Warner, Excellent running again and that brings up the 50 for Warner. His brilliant form continues. His 42nd in this League. This is pushed softly towards long off. They take one and go for the second. The fielder throws it to the bowler but JB is in.

18.42 IST: KC Cariappa to Jonny Bairstow, FOUR! DEFT! Lovely, lovely batting! He too like this partner, moves onto 47 in 25 balls. This is bowled flatter and on off, Bairstow waits for it and then guides it past short third man. Cariappa is having a forgetful debut.

18.40 IST: KC Cariappa to Jonny Bairstow, SIX! Welcome back into the attack! They are in a hurry to end this are Hyderabad. The slog sweep is out, it is connected well and it is into the mid-wicket stands.

KC Cariappa is back on!

18.37 IST: Piyush Chawla to Jonny Bairstow, FOUR! Poor bowling once again! Bowling it on Bairstow's pads. He goes down on one knee and sweeps it fine on the leg side. Boundary.

Piyush Chawla is back!

18.30 IST: Andre Russell to Jonny Bairstow, FOUR! Into the gap! Too easy for the hosts at the moment. Short and on the body, Bairstow pulls it for a one bounce boundary in the square leg region.

18.27 IST: KC Cariappa to David Warner, SIX! 20 from the over with still a ball to go. Overcompensates and bowls it really full this time. Warner sends it sailing into the long on stands.

18.26 IST: KC Cariappa to David Warner, FOUR! Once agian pays the price for drifting it down the leg side. Warner helps it past the fielder at short fine. No one in the deep and a boundary.

18.24 IST: KC Cariappa to David Warner, SIX! Another freebie and Warner does not miss out. Short and down the leg side, David pulls it with utmost ease and over the square leg fence.

18.21 IST: Sunil Narine to David Warner, SIX! It is short and Warner is quick to hit it over the ropes. He goes back and then pulls it over the mid-wicket fence. Poor delivery. Also, 50 up for the hosts. hat-trick of 50-run stands between the two. Ideal start for them once again.

18.17 IST: Piyush Chawla to Jonny Bairstow, SIX! New bat but the result is the same, Bairstow still hitting the ball out of the park with ease. Goes with the spin this time. It is the googly, he is down on one knee and then sends it into the long on stand.

18.16 IST: Piyush Chawla to Jonny Bairstow, FOUR! A little too full and this is put away! It is outside off, Bairstow goes down on one knee and plays the slog sweep over mid-wicket. His one hand came off the handle but it did not make a difference.

18.13 IST: Harry Gurney to David Warner, Full on leg, Warner drives it to long on where Russell while collecting the ball starts limping and then throws it at the keeper's end. The batsmen get two runs. 10 runs have come from the over.

18.08 IST: Prithvi Raj to Jonny Bairstow, FOUR! Ends the over with a boundary! rubbing salt to the wound this. Short and on the body. JB swivels and pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary.

18.07 IST: Prithvi Raj to Jonny Bairstow, All the way! First of this innings! Length and coming into Warner. He clears his front leg and then tonks it over the long on fence. Pressure on the bowler now as a boundary is been hit early in the over.

18.02 IST: Prithvi Raj to David Warner, SIX! All the way! First of this innings! Length and coming into Warner. He clears his front leg and then tonks it over the long on fence. Pressure on the bowler now as a boundary is been hit early in the over.

Prithvi Raj to bowl from the other end.

18.00 IST: Harry Gurney to Jonny Bairstow, Length delivery outside off, Bairstow taps it towards covers where Nitish Rana fumbles and concedes a run. In the process, Jonny Bairstow too gets off the mark.

17.59 IST: Harry Gurney to David Warner, Slower one to begin with, it is on middle, Warner watches it carefully and works it towards mid-wicket for a run. Hyderabad are off the mark straightaway.

17.57 IST: We are back for the chase. The Kolkata players are out in the middle. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow will open the batting for Hyderabad. Harry Gurney will start the proceedings for Kolkata.

17.47 IST: A struggling display of batting by Kolkata once again.

17.45 IST: 159/8...not bad at all for Hyderabad. They will take this score any day. The problem is, the pitch is slow and this might take some doing.

17.42 IST: Rashid Khan to KC Cariappa, SIX! Boom! Rashid commits the mistake of dropping it short outside off and Cariappa thwacks it over long on for a maximum. That was a good connection from the number 10 batsman.

17.39 IST: Rashid Khan to Piyush Chawla, OUT! Chawla is done with the bat for the evening. He tries to be too innovative against a googly landing around leg. Attempts for the reverse sweep/heave but only manages to glove it behind to Bairstow. The Englishman makes no mistake and Khan gets his first wicket.

17.39 IST: Rashid Khan to Piyush Chawla, FOUR! Good start to the over for Kolkata! 150 comes up! Short in length around leg, Chawla gets back and pulls it in front of square leg for a cracking boundary.

17.38 IST: Yarra Prithviraj is the new batsman

17.37 IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Andre Russell, OUT! Wow. Stop the press. Dre Russ is gone. Double stop the press. He has holed out. A rarity. Bhuvi has done what Hyderabad wanted. Sent Russell packing. It is a full toss but Russell cannot take full toll. Probably because it is low. Andre backs away to the leg side and swings hard but cannot quite hit it cleanly. Simple, flat catch to Rashid Khan at deep mid-wicket and the crowd goes bonkers.

17.36 IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Andre Russell, SIX!
SLAM! 'That is brutal', says Harsha Bhogle on air. A short ball, around middle and off, Russell jumps and swats it over deep mid-wicket. There is a fielder in the deep but can do nothing much with his leap.

17.34 IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Andre Russell, SIX! Bhuvi misses and Russell dismisses. A full toss, down the leg side, Russell backs away a touch and swings it over square leg!

17.30 IST: Rashid Khan on for SRH now

17.29 IST: Khaleel Ahmed to Chris Lynn, OUT! Third wicket for Khaleel and he is running in celebration. This is a fantastic catch from Kane Williamson too. A cutter from Ahmed, it's a bit short and wide outside off. Lynn shapes up for a big shot but only manages to slice it in the air towards cover-point.

17.28 IST: Khaleel Ahmed to Chris Lynn, FOUR! Up and over the infield this time. Ahmed provides plenty of width outside off, Lynn latches onto it and slams it over backward point for a boundary. 9th fifty for Lynn, his slowest in the League, coming off 45 balls.

17.25 IST: Khaleel Ahmed is on to bowl now

17.21 IST: He is here. Do not miss. This could be one of two things - Slam bang for the next few overs or a blink-and-you miss stuff. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, Andre 'Dre Rus' Russell is in to bat.

17.21 IST: Sandeep Sharma to Rinku Singh, OUT! The message to Rinku was clear, hit out or get out. The young man targets a length ball around off and tries to power it over mid-wicket. He fails to get enough power behind it and Rashid rushes forward from the deep to take a fine low catch. Now then, now then, how smart is that to invite a monster to bat at this stage? Only time will tell. The remaining 27 balls are going to be really exciting.

17.19 IST: Sandeep Sharma to Rinku Singh, SIX! Much-needed one for Kolkata. That's more like it but they need more of these. 50-run stand comes up in 42 balls. A low full toss on middle, Rinku swings his bat across the line and smashes it handsomely over wide long on for a biggie.

17.18 IST: Sandeep Sharma to resume after the break

17.15 IST: Strategic time-out! Kolkata are not scoring too strongly and Andre Russell is sitting in the dugout waiting for his chance. Lynn and Singh are not finding enough boundaries and one can say that a wicket here will serve them better. For Hyderabad, not sure it can be a plan or not, but not picking a wicket at this stage will benefit them more than otherwise.

17.12 IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Rinku Singh, FOUR! A loosener to start the over. Short and outside off, Rinku slaps it through the covers for a boundary.

17.11 IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the attack

16.59 IST: Sandeep Sharma to Rinku Singh, DROPPED AND SIX! Nadeem has made a complete mess near the fence. He does everything right there, times his jump well too but at the last minute it bursts out of his palms and goes over the rope. A slower good length ball outside off at 107.2 kph, Rinku heaves it across the line over square leg where all the drama mentioned above happened near the fence. A life for Rinku.

16.56 IST: Sandeep Sharma to Chris Lynn, FOUR! Fine shot! Lynn will have to take the responsibility from hereon. A slower short ball on middle at 122.6 kph, Chris gets on top of the bounce and pulls it very powerfully to the deep mid-wicket fence.

16.50 IST: Rashid Khan to Rinku Singh, Brilliant delivery. A googly on off, spinning away, Rinku doesn't pick it and tries to play it late, misses completely. Rashid gives a stare. 80/4 at the halfway mark!

16.49 IST: Rashid Khan into the attack

16.48 IST: Rinku Singh is the new man in

16.44 IST: Strategic time-out! Hyderabad have made a brilliant comeback after the first three overs. With four wickets down, they would now like to create more pressure and maintain the same intensity. For Kolkata, it should be all about building a partnership and setting a platform for Andre Russell. Rinku Singh has joined Lynn in the middle now.

16.43 IST: Shahbaz Nadeem to Dinesh Karthik, OUT! Run out! Survived once, survived twice but runs out of life on the third occasion. Dinesh Karthik is on his bike. Fourth wicket down for Kolkata and they are in deep trouble now. Flighted ball on middle, Karthik nudges it in front of square leg and wants the second run. He rushes across to the other end and Shankar also attacks the ball from the deep before releasing his throw at the keeper's end. Bairstow collects it in front of the stumps and breaks it as DK puts in the dive. It's referred upstairs but Karthik has already started to walk. The replays roll in and it finds the Kolkata skipper well short. Shankar has been involved in all the wickets so far.

16.40 IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Dinesh Karthik, FOUR! Didn't intend to play it that fine but Karthik won't complain here. Width on offer outside off, Dinesh tries to play late but it catches the outside half of his bat and runs fine down to third man for a boundary.

16.37 IST: Dinesh Karthik is out in the middle

16.36 IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Nitish Rana, OUT! Inspired bowling change from Kane Williamson. He brings in Bhuvneshwar Kumar and that results in the wicket of the in-form batsman. Kumar starts his new spell with a length delivery outside off, angling away from Rana at 133.8 kph who flirts inside the line in an attempt to probably run it down towards third man. Fails to get it from the middle of his bat maybe due to some extra bounce and edges it behind. Bairstow makes no mistake behind the stumps. They appeal, the umpire looks a bit unsure but Nitish Rana walks himself. Good gesture.

16.29 IST: Sandeep Sharma to Nitish Rana, FOUR! Oh Nadeem, where is the dive? A pitched up delivery outside off, Rana leans forward and executes a lovely square drive. Nadeem chases it from cover-point, should have put in the dive before the rope but hesitates and it goes for a boundary.

16.23 IST: Nitish Rana is in next. He has been in tremendous form this season and is needed to do well here again. Kolkata have got a start and it's all about capitalizing from here.

16.22 IST: Khaleel Ahmed to Shubman Gill, OUT! Khaleel strikes again, second wicket for him and the crowd is ecstatic. He dishes out a good length delivery outside off, angling away, Gill strides forward and flashes his blade at it. The ball flies off the outer half and goes to the right of the point fielder. Vijay Shankar stationed there quickly reacts and completes the catch with a slide. The replays show that it was a slower one and Shubman was a little bit early into his shot. Nicely deceived by Khaleel, both his wickets have come off a well-disguised slower ones.

16.16 IST: Sandeep Sharma is the new bowler here for Sunrisers. 4 in 4 for them

16.15 IST: Shubman Gill is the new man in

16.13 IST: Khaleel Ahmed to Sunil Narine, OUT! Timberrrr...Khaleel pulled out of his delivery stride and that maybe put off Narine's concentration. A clever change in pace, a slower length delivery on middle and angling in at 116.3 kph, Narine winds up for a big heave-ho across the line but swings his bat quite early. The ball arrives late and goes on to peg back the leg stump.

16.11 IST: Khaleel Ahmed to Sunil Narine, FOUR! Khaleel over-corrects his length now. Attempts for the yorker maybe but it turns out to be a low full toss on off. Narine anticipates it, stays leg side of this delivery and pumps it over covers for a boundary. 14 from the over, so far.

16.10 IST: Khaleel Ahmed
to Sunil Narine, FOUR! Why would you keep bowling short to this batsman? Yet another half-tracker and Narine has pulled it with all his power over mid-wicket.

16.10 IST: Khaleel Ahmed to Sunil Narine, SIX! Narine is looking in scintillating form. Ahmed begins his spell with a short delivery outside off, Narine loves it there and whacks it over covers for a biggie. A cracking shot, that.

16.09 IST: Khaleel Ahmed into the attack.

16.08 IST: Shahbaz Nadeem to Chris Lynn, SIX! Up and just over long on. Nadeem tosses it up and lands it a little too full this time. Lynn lines it up and muscles it over the bowler's head. Shankar at the edge of the rope in the deep jumps to attempt for the catch but it goes over him for a biggie. 18 from this one, Kolkata are roaring.

16.07 IST: Shahbaz Nadeem to Sunil Narine, SIX! As easy as it gets! You just cannot afford to drop short. It's on and around off, Narine picks it very early and pulls it massively in front of square leg for a biggie.

16.06 IST: Shahbaz Nadeem to Chris Lynn, FOUR! Too easy! Nadeem is on the shorter side first up, it's around off, Lynn gets the time to move back and power it through covers for a boundary. Good start to the over.

16.05 IST: Shahbaz Nadeem to bowl from the other end

16.04 IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Sunil Narine, FOUR! Elegantly put away. Fractionally short in length and around leg, Narine stands on his back foot and glances it past the short fine leg fielder for a boundary. 10 from the first over, Kolkata have started well here.

16.02 IST: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Chris Lynn, FOUR! Two dot balls followed by a cracking boundary. Lynn will be feeling a lot better now. Kumar offers width on this occasion, short and wide outside off, Lynn reaches out for it and slaps it through covers. The Aussie is off the mark.

16.00 IST: Out come the players and officials in the middle. Good crowd has come to watch this contest in spite of the conditions being scorching hot. Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine would look to provide a quickfire start here to Kolkata. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to begin proceedings with the new ball. A slip is in place...

15.41 IST: Playing XIs:
