Home Minister Rajnath Singh today announced that the Indo-Pak border will be completely sealed by the end of 2018.

"This is time bound, it will be done by 2018 December. We are readying an action plan for that," Mr Singh said after a review meet with chief ministers of border states.

The Home Ministry has also decided to put in place a new system of border management called ‘ Border Security Grid’. 

"We will start a new concept called Border Security Grid under which inputs from all border states will be taken," said Singh.

The Home minister also said that the government is also looking at technological solutions to man the border.

Chief Ministers and Home Ministers of Jammu Kashmir, Punjab, Gujarat and Rajasthan were present in the review meeting. After the meeting, Mr Singh is scheduled  also meet with security forces personals in Munawao in Barmer.

The meeting holds importance amid the present security situation along with border after Uri attack and surgical strike conducted by Army across LoC. Of the 3,323-km-long Indo-Pak border, 1,225 km falls in Jammu and Kashmir 553 km in Punjab, 1,037 km in Rajasthan and 508 km in Gujarat.

The meeting comes a day after four militants were gunned down by security forces who tried to infiltrate the border from PoK in the early hours of Thursday.

The meeting is being called to bring better synergy among the state police and the Border Security Force. Issues concerning the states are also expected to be discussed during the meeting. Home Minister will also visit Munabao border outpost and interact with BSF personnel.
