India's 12 Jyotirlingas: Mallikārjuna Temple in Kurnool

New Delhi: Also known as Srisailam, Mallikarjuna is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva situated on Nallamala Hills  on the river Krishna in Kurnool District, about 212 km south of Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

There are many other Shiva temples located in the vicinity of Sreesailam.

1) Akka Mahadevi caves (12th Century AD) - Accessible via motorboat ride and has a Shiva Linga deep inside the caves.

2) Hemareddy Mallamma Temple, a half kilometer on the western side of the Mallikarjuna Temple. The place is visited by lakhs of pilgrims who offer prayers at this temple.

3) Besides temples, the area is surrounded with Srisailam Wildlife Sanctuary. Srisailam Dam is well visited by guests staying overnight.
