Many people in the city appeared to be affected by an unusual fever with a bewildering array of symptoms. What raised concern is patients testing negative for dengue, malaria, chikungunya, and other infections, TOI reported

BYL Nair's physician told TOI, "Fever with associated rashes often points to dengue, but these patients consistently show negative results for dengue." This strange fever began to manifest around two months ago.

Symptoms of unusual fever

  • Temperatures fluctuate between 99-102 degrees
  • Full-body rash on 4th or 5th day
  • Heaviness in the eyes
  • Persistent headaches
  • Sleeplessness
  • Severe joint pain

Speaking to TOI, Dr Neelam Andrade said, "The fever's accompanying rash emerges on the 4th or 5th day, and is relatively short-lived, typically lasting only 1.5 to 2 days. Then, on the 5th or 6th day, as rashes start disappearing, one experiences severe joint pain," she said.

Another physician Dr Pratit Samdani also shared her take on the 'unusual' fever and said viral fever and influenza behave differently with time. At times, patients should be tested for a wide spectrum of conditions.

Dr Vasant Nagvekar, an infectious disease expert shared his piece of insight and said Dengue 2 and Dengue 4 serotypes often show negative results initially. He further stated that Chikungunya tests have also shown negative reports when tested within the first seven days.
