The Rajya Sabha today unanimously passed the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Amendment Bill 2019. The bill will amend the provisions of the POCSO Act 2012 and provide stricter punishments for sexual abuse on children. Under the new provisions, the minimum punishment for 'aggravate penetrative sexual assault' will be increased from 10 years to 20 years. The maximum punishment will be death penalty.
