New Delhi, Sep 15: The IAF will look into charges by family of former Flying Officer Anjali Gupta, who allegedly committed suicide, which she had framed false sexual harassment allegations against her seniors at the behest of Group Captain Amit Gupta, leading to her dismissal from service.

Amit Gupta, who was allegedly in a live-in relationship with Anjali Gupta, has been suspended from the IAF after he was arrested in connection with her alleged suicide at his Bhopal residence on September 11.

“Right now, it is a criminal case. So let it be resolved first but we will certainly look at this as a Service,” Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne told PTI here after being asked whether the service would hold a separate inquiry into these allegations leveled by the family of Anjali Gupta.

Asked for the reasons behind suspending Amit Gupta from Service, Browne said, “Anytime a person is arrested, there is an Air Force Act that he is to be suspended. His pay and pension will also be held up. Till such time that this whole case is on.”

In 2005, Anjali had accused her senior officers of sexually abusing her. However, she was dismissed by the IAF in February 2006, after the allegations she had levelled against the officers, were found to be false.

She was the first woman officer in the IAF to have been dismissed from service by a Court Martial and was found guilty on seven counts, including indiscipline, insubordination and financial misappropriation.

In its statements to the police, Anjali Gupta's family has said that her court-martial and the subsequent dismissal as well as Amit Gupta's ‘false' promises of marriage led her to depression and ultimately prompted her to commit suicide. PTI
