Kolkata: CBI on Monday night arrested media tycoon Ramesh Gandhi, who owns news channels Khaas Khabar and and NE Bangla, in connection with multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.
CBI had earlier arrested media magnates Srinjoy Bose and Kunal Ghosh in connection with this scam. Srinjoy Bose is out on bail and he has resigned as Trinamool Congress MP. Suspended Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh is still in jail.
On Monday, the Calcutta High court while rejecting Kunal Ghosh's bail petition made remarks against CBI. The division bench of Justice Aniruddha Basu and Shankar Acharya remarked that CBI should now wind up its investigation into the Sharda scam and start trial.
Earlier, the local court in Alipore had also asked CBI how far its investigation has progressed. One of the accused in the scam, Debjani Mukherjee has approached the Supreme Court seeking earlier completion of the probe.
