World Digestive Health Day is observed every year on May 29 to raise awareness about digestive health and promote healthy habits to prevent digestive disorders. To commemorate the day, we will discuss about a few common digestive issues. Many times it happens that after eating food, people start getting sour burps and the problem of indigestion starts. Dr Sharad Malhotra, Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Gastroenterology Hepatology at Aakash Healthcare has explained why these happen. According to the doctor, these stomach-related problems are bloating after eating food, sour burps and stomach acid coming inside the throat (gastroparesis) i.e. stomach acid migrating to the chest is a disease caused by. Also, due to the deteriorating lifestyle and eating habits of today, people have to face gas and bloating due to not eating food at the right time. In such a situation, when gas is formed in the stomach after eating food, then acidity and sour burps start coming. In this situation, the stomach often bulges out after eating food. If you are also facing the same problem after eating, then try these home remedies.

Try these remedies for indigestion and bloating:

  1. Ginger pieces: If you have the problem of indigestion and bloating after eating dinner at night, then eat small pieces of ginger. You can use ginger in a salad. This will make it easier for you to eat. You will get a lot of relief by consuming it. 
  2. Fennel: If you get a sour burp and gas formation in the stomach after eating dinner, then chew and eat fennel. This will benefit you.
  3. Celery water: Celery water is also very beneficial in getting rid of bloating and indigestion. Before going to bed at night, boil half a teaspoon of celery in a glass of water and then drink that water. This will give you immediate relief. 

How to prevent these problems?

  • Never drink water while eating. Drink water only after about 2 to 3 hours of eating. 
  • Also, always eat a little less than what you feel hungry for. 
  • Always eat small amounts of food
  • Always take a half-hour walk after eating. 
  • Have dinner between 7 and 8 pm.
  • Keep your weight under control.
