The Akshar river cruise floating restaurant, a joint venture between Akshar Travels, the Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC), and the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation, was virtually inaugurated today in Ahmedabad by Union Home Affairs and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.

A 162-passenger cruise with a meal will take the passengers on a journey that lasts one and a half hours. A lifeboat, life jackets, and other safety features are included in a floating restaurant's sprinkler system.

Amit Shah said in his virtual address to the inaugural function that he also wants to eat with his family on this cruise. He stated that he has decided to dine with Ahmedabad residents on this cruise when he visits the city.

Tending to a social occasion through video meeting, Shah commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying when the last option was the chief minister of Gujarat, he took numerous drives which helped in expanding the traveler footfall in the state.

Shah said when he moved to Ahmedabad in 1978, he never went to see the Sabarmati stream until the riverfront was developed.

The stream was then just a pit of grimy water, he reviewed.

"As the then Gujarat chief minister, Prime Minister Modi for the first time imagined a riverfront and planned for it, and it was constructed during his duration (as CM). The riverfront became known not just in Ahmedabad but also across the country and abroad and became a centre of tourism," Shah said.

"It has become a centre of various activities. Walkers take a stroll in the morning, senior citizens in the evening, and children and youth play here. Today, the riverfront has become the soul of social and cultural activities on both sides (of the river) of Ahmedabad," he said.

He stated that the riverfront "Akshar River Cruise" will be a new attraction for Ahmedabad.

The 30-meter-long luxury cruise, which has two engines and takes two hours to drive, will help boost tourism with things like live music and tasty vegetarian and Jain food, he said.

Shah stated that the river cruise was designed with people's safety in mind and includes emergency rescue boats, 180 life jackets, and a fire sprinkler system.

According to Shah, when Modi became Gujarat's chief minister, he prioritized tourism and worked on a variety of projects to make the state a national tourism hub.

Modi contributed crores of rupees to make an environment to draw in lakhs of vacationers by associating journey focuses, borders with further developed street network, he said.
