New Delhi: Delhi Police has given a clean chit to BJP MP Maheish Girri and NDMC vice-chairman Karan Singh Tanwar in the murder case of NDMC lawyer MM Khan.
“During the investigation, we found no definitive proof that NDMC vice-chairman Karan Singh Tanwar and BJP MP Maheish Girri were involved in the murder of MM Khan,” Taj Hasan, joint commissioner (crime).
Khan, 58, was shot dead outside his house in south Delhi's Jamia Nagar on May 16. The NDMC, on the directions of the Home Ministry, had offered a job to Khan's wife on compassionate grounds.
Girri dared Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to prove the charges or quit politics.
“The clean chit was evident… the allegations against me are baseless. I have no connection with the case… I don’t know who MM Khan was. If he manages to prove, I will quit politics, otherwise he should do so,” Girri said.
Tanwar went a step further, threatening to file a defamation case against kejriwal.
Delhi government had announced a compensation of Rs 1 crore to Khan's family members while Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had announced an ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the bereaved family.
Last week, Delhi Assembly adopted a resolution to give a status of "Martyr" to Khan who was killed after he refused to take bribe allegedly to hush up a matter of a hotelier.
Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has written another letter to LG Najeeb Jung accusing him of shielding Girri and Tanwar.
Kejriwal said that Jung has ‘beautifully’ saved Girri and Tanwar from questioning by the police, which must have ‘pleased Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Now Modiji is fully assured that no matter how much goondaism BJP men partake in, no one will be able to bend (their) hair. You will save them. And you will keep on framing Aam Aadmi Party by lodging false cases," it reads.
