Indian army retaliates to ceasefire violation by Pakistan along LoC, 6 militants held in Kashmir

In Islamabad, the Foreign Office has summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh following the reports of killings of its personnel.

The Indian Army today retaliated strongly and effectively to ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops, causing significant damages to posts across the LoC in Bhimber and Battal sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.

In Islamabad, the Foreign Office summoned India's Deputy High Commissioner and ‘condemned the unprovoked’ ceasefire violation by India that killed two civilians and injured five others. 

Foreign Office said in a statement that India resorted to firing in Battal, Jandrot and Kotli sectors. 

"The Director General (South Asia & SAARC), Dr. Mohammad Faisal, summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner, JP Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces on June 1," it said. 

Earlier in the day, Army had neutralised two terrorists in the Baramullah district. The two militants, identified as Aijaz Ahmad Mir of Brath Kalan and Basharat Ahmad Sheikh of Bomai Sopore, were said to be behind yesterday’s grenade attack on a police station in Sopore.

This morning, a General Engineering Reserve Force (GREF) labourer was killed while two others including a BSF jawan were injured when Pakistan violated the ceasefire by shelling mortars and firing on forward posts along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts.

Pakistan Army resorted to mortar shelling and firing on forward posts along the LoC in Nowshera sector in Rajouri district. They also opened fire and shelled posts along the LoC in Krishnagati sector of Poonch district.

One Hizbul militant, 5 LeT operatives arrested

Meanwhile, a Hizbul Mujahideen militant and five overground operatives of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit were arrested from two separate places in Kashmir.

Police said that five LeT operatives were apprehended during checking of vehicles at Khusarpora Hajin axis in Bandipora in north Kashmir and claimed to have busted a module of the outfit. 

The recoveries from their car included 10 hand grenades, two AK magazines and 27 AK rounds, a police official said. 

During preliminary investigation, the accused persons said they were working for LeT as over-ground workers (OGWs). The police has registered a case and further investigation is on.

Hizbul Mujahideen militant Suhaib Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Chursoo Awantipora in Pulwama district, was apprehended by the security forces from Manigam area of Qazigund. 

The security forces recovered one pistol, one pistol magazine and eight pistol rounds from his possession.
