Sri Lanka has been subject to an international probe into alleged human rights violations during the last phase of the war with the LTTE.

Rajapaksa administration has been accused of not doing enough to achieve reconciliation with the Tamil minority in its post-conflict phase.

Sri Lanka views the international campaign against it as one carried out by the Western nations at the behest of the pro-LTTE diaspora domiciled in those countries. It has vowed not to cooperate with the investigation.

During the summit, Rajapaksa met UN Secretary General BanKi-moon and told him that any attempt to subject Sri Lanka to international investigation would be against the wishes of the people.
He invited the UN chief to visit Sri Lanka to see for himself the progress made in the island's post conflict phase. Rajapaksa had assured UN chief Sri Lanka's commitment to a local investigation.

Ban had toured Sri Lanka in 2OO9 immediately after the government troops emerged victorious in the military campaign.  Rajapaksa also told Moon that his government had taken steps to achieve reconciliation by implementing the recommendations of Sri Lanka's own reconciliation panel.
