The last rites of Sridevi took place at 3:30 pm today at Celebrations Sports Club in Mumbai. Several Bollywood celebrities arrived at the venue to pay their last respects to the evergreen actress. The chartered flight carrying the mortal remains of late Hindi film actor Sridevi arrived at Mumbai airport on Tuesday at 9.30 pm. Accompanying her on her final journey home was husband Boney Kapoor, brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor and stepson Arjun Kapoor. At the airport, they were met by Boney’s brother, actor Anil Kapoor, his daughter Sonam and industrialist Anil Ambani.
An ambulance from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital was there at the airport to take the body to Boney’s Lokhandwala residence.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan arrived at Celebrations Sports Club along with her mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan.
Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, wife Kajol reach the Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala. Also, choreographer Saroj Khan, who choreographed Sridevi in many films arrives at the venue. Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan has also reached Celebration Sports Club.
Madhuri Dixit Nene, along with her husband Dr Madhav Nene arrives at the Celebration Sports Club in Lokhandwala to pay the last tribute to the iconic star. The cremation will take place in the afternoon.
Sridevi’s family including brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor, Rhea Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor arrive at Celebration Sports Club. Fashion photographer Dabboo Ratnani has also arrived at the venue.
Sridevi died on Saturday night in Dubai, but her body was brought only on Tuesday as the Dubai Prosecutor's Office was investigating the case of her death.
The prosecutor's office said forensic report had stated that she had died from "accidental drowning" in the bathtub of her hotel room, after losing consciousness. The case had been closed, the prosecutor's office said.
In an official statement, Boney Kapoor and family thanked media for their continued sensitivity and support during this emotional moment. As per the statement, last respects and condolences will be paid to Sridevi from 9:30 am onwards on Wednesday. After this, her mortal remains will be cremated at Vile Parle Seva Samaj and Hindu Cemetary at 3:30 pm.
