Four arrested for trying to rob bank in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 9: Three teenagers and a juvenile have been arrested here for trying to rob a State Bank of India branch Sep 29, police said Tuesday.





All four attempted to rob the bank to fund their addiction to drugs.

Sadiq, 18, Zahid, 18, Kamre Aalam, 22, and a juvenile were arrested Monday from their hideouts in north Delhi.

"They attempted to rob an SBI bank in Inderlok area Sep 29. They entered the bank through a ventilator by cutting the grill. They tried to break open an ATM but failed to do so," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Sindhu Pillai.

Zahid was arrested first from his residence in north Delhi's Trinagar. On his instance, the other accused were nabbed Monday.

Zahid told police that he is a student of the School of Open Learning of Delhi university and was an alcoholic.

"On the night of the crime, they drank alcohol. The juvenile kept watch outside while the others tried to loot the ATM," said the officer.

Sadik cut the wire of the CCTV camera installed in the bank, added the officer.
