UP: Six killed, 25 injured as speeding truck rams into bus on Gorakhpur-Kushinagar highway

The passengers were standing on the road because of a punctured tyre of the bus and were hit by a fast-moving truck coming from behind.

Gorakhpur: As many as six people were killed and 25 others sustained injuries after a speeding truck collided with a bus parked near Jagdishpur on the Gorakhpur-Kushinagar Highway in the Gorakhpur district of  Uttar Pradesh late on Thursday night.

The passengers were standing on the road because the bus tyre was punctured.

25 people were injured

More than 25 people were injured in the incident, and they have been admitted to the district hospital and medical college with the assistance of five ambulances. The condition of some of the injured are critical. Upon receiving the information, the SP City and other officials arrived at the scene. Officials have also alerted doctors at the district hospital and medical college, and doctors have also reached the site.

The identities of two of the deceased individuals have not been determined yet. Among those identified are Shailesh Patel (25), Suresh Chauhan (35), Neetesh Singh (25) and Himanshu Yadav (24). 

Passengers were waiting for another bus

A bus from Gorakhpur was carrying passengers to Padrauna. Near Mallapur in Jagdishpur, one of the bus's wheels suffered a flat tire. The driver and conductor parked the bus on the side of the road and requested another bus. An empty bus arrived from Gorakhpur and was in the process of picking up passengers. Some passengers had already boarded the new bus, while others were still standing between the two buses. In the midst of this, a speeding truck collided with the bus from behind.

The impact of the collision was so severe that two individuals lost their lives on the spot, with the bus's wheels coming on top of them. In addition, around two dozen people sustained injuries, with a dozen of them reported to be in critical condition. Upon reaching the hospital, four more injured individuals passed away. After the incident, officials alerted doctors at the district and medical college. With a substantial number of injured individuals arriving, doctors were called immediately. The injured were transported to the Sadar Hospital and the Medical College via five ambulances that reached the accident site. According to the police, the bus was carrying more than 30 passengers.
