Stock markets turn erratic after positive start; Asian shares mostly rise except for China

Stock market: The 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 395.26 points to 61,955.90 in early trade.
In Asia, Seoul, and Tokyo markets were trading in the green, while Shanghai and Hong Kong quoted lower. The US market ended lower on Tuesday.
Among the Sensex firms, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Maruti, IndusInd Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharti Airtel and ITC were the biggest laggards. Bajaj Finance, Infosys, Bajaj Finserv, Wipro, Asian Paints and Tata Consultancy Services were among the major gainers.
The 30-share BSE Sensex declined 19.93 points to 61,920.27 points in early trade after hitting the crucial 62,000 mark in opening deals. The NSE Nifty fell 15.05 points to 18,300.05 points.
Among the Sensex firms, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Titan, UltraTech Cement, Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank and HDFC were the major gainers. State Bank of India, HCL Technologies, ITC and Reliance Industries were the major laggards.
The 30-share BSE Sensex rallied 709.96 points or 1.16 per cent to settle at 61,764.25. During the day, it jumped 799.9 points or 1.31 per cent to 61,854.19.
Both the stocks fell sharply amid reports that the merged HDFC entity could see significant outflow.
During the day, it rallied 604.61 points or 0.98 per cent to 61,797.91.
Rallying for the eighth straight day, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 242.27 points or 0.40 per cent to settle at 61,354.71.
Rallying for the fifth straight session, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 463.06 points or 0.76 per cent to settle at 61,112.44. During the day, it surged 560.08 points or 0.92 per cent to 61,209.46.
During intra-day, it hit a high of 60,101.64 and a low of 59,620.11. As many as 23 stocks in the index ended in the green and seven in the red. The broader NSE Nifty gained 119.35 points or 0.68 per cent to close at 17,743.40.
Stock Market: In a volatile trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex edged up 22.71 points or 0.04 per cent to settle at 59,655.06.
The broader Nifty dipped 41.40 points or 0.23 per cent to settle at 17,618.75 with 31 of its shares closing with losses.
UltraTech Cement, Titan, Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, ICICI Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, Tech Mahindra, ITC and HDFC Bank were among the major laggards.
After gaining 375 points in the early trade, the BSE Sensex could not hold to gains and declined 897.28 points or 1.52 per cent to settle at 58,237.85 as 29 of its constituents declined while only one advanced.
Sensex on Wednesday witnessed a three-week low as it plunged by 927 points to settle at 59744.98 while Nifty settled at a four month low below 176,00. The figures are a reflection of weak global trends.
The 30-share BSE Sensex zoomed 846.94 points or 1.41 per cent to settle at 60,747.31. During the day, it jumped 989.04 points or 1.65 per cent to 60,889.41. The broader NSE Nifty climbed 241.75 points or 1.35 per cent to end at 18,101.20.
Business News: After falling in the previous three trading sessions, the 30-share BSE benchmark climbed 179.53 points to 57,326.85 after a positive start. The broader NSE Nifty gained 52.75 points to 17,036.30.
Rupee v/s Dollar: At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.35 against the dollar, then pared the gains to 82.41, registering a loss of just 1 paisa over its previous close.
