“BJP has been repeatedly accusing Congress of corruption.  But the fact is we brought in measures like RTI to bring about transparency in administration. We also passed the Lokpal Bill which BJP kept opposing. Now they fear that these institutions may end up landing their own leader in trouble,” he said.

Listing out the UPA government's achievements, Gandhi said, “Our government declared right to livelihood a law by way of MNREGA. It granted the right to food a legal status by way of the Food Security Bill. Our next government will ensure that all the homeless have the right to free shelter and all the sickly have the right to free medical treatment.”

“Our efforts have helped 700 million people rise above the poverty line. Our next step would be to ensure that these 700 million people add to our rapidly-growing middle class,” he added.

The Congress vice president also attacked Modi over BJP's electoral tie-up with parties like Shiv Sena and MNS “which have been trying to drive youths from Uttar Pradesh and other Hindi-speaking states” out of Mumbai where they go in search of livelihood.

Blaming successive non-Congress governments in UP for its economic downfall, Gandhi said “during the last 25 years, the state has been ruled by the BJP, the BSP and the Samajwadi Party. These governments destroyed all the industries which dotted places like Allahabad and Phulpur”.
