Dehradun: Harish Rawat led Congress has won the floor test in Uttarakhand Assembly, according to sources

According to BJP MLA Rajesh Shukla, 33 MLAs voted in favour of Harish Rawat while 28 MLAs voted against him.

" BJP has won on principles but we were left behind in the game of numbers," Another BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi said.

Supreme Court will declare the results of the floor test tomorrow.

The ousted Chief Minister Harish Rawat, however, refused to comment on the outcome of the floor test and hoped that the cloud of uncertainty will be removed tomorrow by the Supreme Court.

"Won't comment on what happened inside.Clouds of uncertainty will soon vanish. Hope clouds of uncertainty over state will disappear & things will be clearer tomorrow," Harish Rawat said.

Supreme Court's refusal to allow nine disqualified rebel Congress lawmakers to participate in trust vote came as a major relief to Harish Rawat's efforts to save his government in Uttarakhand.

Expressing confidence that the party would win the trust vote in Vidhan Sabha, party spokesperson Indira Hridayesh said,"We're in complete majority,we've numbers. We'll prove majority in Uttarakhand Assembly today."

However, BJP's Ramesh Pokhriyal rebutted Congress claim, he said,"Harishji Govt lost its existence day they failed to pass budget in Assembly, had they been in majority it would've passed."

With 27 lawmakers in its support, Congress now just needs to keep its flock together and ensure the continued support of six PDF MLAs, comprising BSP, Independents and Uttarakhand Kranti Dal.

On Monday, hours after the Uttarakhand High Court dismissed the appeals of the Congress rebels against the Speaker’s decision to disqualify them, the apex court also declined to let them cast their votes during the floor test.

Dismissing their petition, the single judge bench of Justice UC Dhyani said the petition stands dismissed and asked the MLAs to go back to Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal seeking a review of his action if they so wished.

All the 9 MLAs were disqualified from the assembly under the anti-defection law but eight of them have challenged the Speaker’s decision in the court.

Moments after the High Court pronounced its order, the MLAs moved the Supreme Court. Counsel for the MLAs CA Sundaram mentioned the matter before Chief Justice of India TS Thakur about the High Court verdict that had come earlier in the day. The CJI asked the counsel to approach the bench which had on Friday ordered the floor test.

Uttrakhand had political crisis when 9 Congress legislators including former chief minister Vijay Bahuguna revolted against their own government during a debate on a finance bill on March 18.
